VEGAS NEON  DAYTIME

Below is an extensive but not complete collection of photos of '40s to 60's Motel Signs. Most of the signs below are either on Las Vegas Boulevard, Fremont Street Downtown, or Boulder Highway in Las Venderson (Las Vegas and Henderson merge together, so why not the name!) or Boulder City.   Motel signs, a great symbol of the American Automobile culture that began with the invention of the auto and then exploded onto the scene after World War II, is an almost dead art. And while in recent years the value of these signs have begun to get some appreciation, they are still disappearing at an alarming rate, with only a handful being saved for museums.  Las Vegas has a nice Neon Museum, but I wish most of these signs could be restored in place.  It would certainly spruce up Bolder Highway and Freemont Street, which in certain parts are in very bad need of sprucing up!  I put these pictures on the site for the signs alone, I have zero idea what the motels are like and I don't make any recommendation one way or another about staying there or safety.  Some photos were taken a while back when I didn't know what the heck I was doing on websites or digital cameras (some say that situation remains).  I prefer to tell people I was trying to make the photos look arty (the secret will remain between you and me).
