One of the most unappreciated type of time machine is
the 1940s and 1950s motel. While there are some
preservation efforts at saving neon motel signs once the
motel is torn down, wouldn't it be nice to relight and
preserve existing motel signs in their place, while the
motel still exists? You know the type of neon
motel signs I'm talking about. They are found all
over the remaining parts of Route 66 as well as other
bygone highways that are now just city streets or nearly
abandoned frontage roads. I know this topic may be
a bit off my central theme, but I just couldn't resist!
As I get the opportunity, I'll keep adding
pictures. I've thrown in a few buildings and other
sites as well. This covers most of Rt. 66 in
California, including Rt. 66 East of Barstow as well. (click
